The objective of the project was to popularize the use of organic fertilizers among paddy farmers in the Trincomalee District in order to reduce the adverse impacts of chemical fertilizers. The study entailed a comparative evaluation of the attitudes and knowledge of farmers on fertilizer usage and the cost, cultivation methods and yields obtained. Two groups of farmers were selected for in-depth interviews viz; those who used only chemical fertilizers and a group who used only organic fertilizers.
