Supporting the Government of Sri Lanka’s vision for 2025 and being in line with New UNDP Strategic Plan, UNDP facilitated the compilation of a Comprehensive Youth Development Programme (CYDP) in 2017 by the Ministry of National Policy and Economic Affairs under the recommendation and instructions of the State Minister. With the aim of empowering and transforming youth to be a high quality, highly skilled workforce ready to compete globally, CYDP has identified 5 goals to improve youth outcomes. One of the goals is to strengthen national bodies and institutions on youth for innovative service delivery. Within that goal the first objective was to develop a 3 year Action Plan for NYSC. A team of researchers from the Centre for Development.
Research Interventions (CDRI) headed by Prof. Siri Hettige was commissioned to develop it. Taking the above mentioned challenges into consideration, we embarked on designing the 3 year Action Plan. There is a great similarity between the above findings and findings of the youth consultations that we had conducted in the nine provinces.
