The ChildFund commissioned the Center for Development Research and Interventions (CDRI) to undertake a post KIM study in the five districts where the “TOGETHER” project was implemented.
In the assignment, the objectives of the KIM follow up study were to:
• Examine the effectiveness of Kim training received by KIs.
- Determine the prevalence of different impairments in the selected districts.
- Examine the outcomes from the KIM medical camps
- Examine the participation of CWDs in learning activities
- Examine the access to assistive devices and other services by CWDs and identify any gaps in service delivery.
The “TOGETHER” project used the Key Informant Methodology (KIM) to identify children with disabilities (CWDs) for referral and other related services in eleven DS divisions in the districtsPuttalam, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Matale and Nuwara Eliya implemented by ChildFund with the participation of four CSOs -Voice Area Foundation, Child Development Fund, Abhimana and TField. The eleven DS divisions were Mundalama, Karuwalgaswewa, Anamaduwa and Pallama from Puttalam district, Kuchachavely, Gomarankadawala and Morawewa from Trincomalee district, Galenbindunuwewa and Palugaswewa from Anuradhapura district, Dambulla from Matale district and Nuwara Eliya from Nuwara Eliya district. KIM Follow up study was undertaken to estimate the prevalence rate of CWDS in the above eleven DS divisions and examine the educational status of CWDs and identify the service delivery gaps.
