I obtained a BA (Hons) in Sociology (Colombo), MA in Sociology (Kelaniya), and an MPhil in Sociology (Colombo) (a research grant was awarded by the University of Sussex). My MPhil thesis is on “International Labour Migration and Its Impact on the Village Social Structure of an Irrigated Settlement Scheme”. I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Colombo. My Ph.D. research is on “Community Resilience towards Drought”. I followed the Certificate Course on Methods and Approaches to Research on Migration Issues at the Center for Development Studies in Trivandrum, affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University in India.
I have conducted sociological research on a wide range of themes. Main research interest includes Local governance, migration, disaster & displacement, health behavior and well-being, gender, disability, children & youth, transportation, social impact assessment, law & justice, Ethno-religious tensions, and public opinion surveys. My research papers were published on migration, the image of women in electronic media, and building resilience in disaster risk reduction. I possess computer skills in general Microsoft packages, especially Windows SPSS 22 for Quantitative and Qualitative data analysis.
Currently, I am working as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Development Research and Interventions (CDRI) and a member of the board of directors and Secretary of the CDRI. And also I am a member, of the Centre for Women’s Research (CENWOR).
